Sharing Day/Handsworth Primary Schools

Thought I'd share a little something.... repping Birmingham Jazz.

It's been a real pleasure to work with Wilkes Green, St. James & Watville Primary schools in Handsworth. As a practitioner the main difficulty that the team (mainly me) have found, is how to make hand held percussion sound funky. How do you enable the young person with the triangle or non-pitched percussion instrument to play a groove that 1. they can play in time 2. inspires them? Answers on a postcard…

Robin Hood Sharing Day!!

Hi all,

Just a quick post to let you know a short video of the sharing day made by one of the teachers at Robin Hood is now available to view on ning. Check it out, 3 classes in the Banded About project performed (2 from Robin Hood, 1 from Highters Heath) but the musicians got everybody on their feet and joining in throughout the course of the morning - big thanks to Lisa Mallett, Wendy Quirk and Cath Arlidge for leading the event and all the teachers that helped out!

Upcoming Feel the Buzz workshops!

Just a short post to let people know there are a handful of places left for our Feel the Buzz workshop next week on Thurs 8 and Fri 9 April.

Welcome to 'Banded About'!

The Birmingham Music Hub has been awarded one of only five national DCSF Music Partnership Projects for 2009-2010. The project coincides with ‘Tune In’ year of music. The project partners include: Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG); Birmingham Jazz; City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO); Sound It Out Community Music and Town Hall Symphony Hall. The Birmingham Music Service will support all five partners. Children and Young People from five clusters of Birmingham schools will benefit from a range of creative ensemble music making led by professional musicians working in partnership with their teachers. Participants will also experience the live music performed in the City by each of the partner organisations and will give concerts of their own at some of Birmingham’s most internationally renowned venues.

Banded About has been set up on Ning social network for the project clusters to share their experiences, videos, and photos of their projects. To chat, and update fellow members on their individual projects and events!
